As eBay continues to roll out global trade item number requirements (UPC, EAN, GTIN, ISBN and Manufacturer/MPN) for more categories, you may be required to provide a valid global trade item number for products you wish to list on eBay.

If your listing fails to list, relist or revise on eBay due to this error, eBay will return the following error message:

“The EAN field is missing. Please add EAN to the listing and try again.” – eBay.co.uk and other European sites
“The UPC field is missing. Please add UPC to the listing and try again.” – eBay.com and North American sites

If you encounter this error, you must enter a valid global trade item number (UPC, EAN, GTIN) on the product or the Sellware-specific eBay template.  For situations where your products do not have a global trade item number, eBay allows you to enter “Does not apply”.  Below you will find an example of using “Does not apply” in the UPC field of the eBay template within Sellware:

Add UPC or EAN to eBay Listing

Please note that if eBay requires requires a specific global trade item number for your category such as UPC, but your product has an EAN, you must enter both the product-specific EAN and “Does not apply” for UPC to avoid the error.

You can find more information about additional eBay categories requiring global trade item numbers such as GTIN, UPC, and Brand/MPN on this eBay help page.
